Once upon a time, a long time ago, lived a man named Michael. Michael was always curious about what lay under the sea, but he had never had a chance to see it. But one day a fishing ship came to his home and offered him a job. The captain said that they never could tell where the fish were, and needed someone smart to find a way to go underwater and look for fish. People always said Michael was well educated, so he took the job.
The ship set course for the Mediterranean Sea , while Michael started on his task. He thought about the fish that lived under the sea, and what they had that humans didn't. Then he thought, fish have fins, and they breathe underwater, so if I made fins, I might be able to breathe underwater. Michael took a piece of the sail and cut it into a fin shape. He propped it up on his back using wooden poles, and, after notifying the sailors of his hypothesis, jumped into the water. He started to sink; when he was submerged, he took an experimental breath. But all he got was water. Michael frantically made his way to the surface. His "fin" was soggy; fish's fins didn't get soggy! Obviously he was wrong.
Michael was frustrated, he never thought that sails could get soggy if the were underwater. He went to his cabin, and thought of a better idea. It was raining, so he put on a hood. "That's it" he thought. He experimented with a bottle and if a bottle could have air underwater, then some sort of a helmet could take air and he could go underwater and look at the fish. He worked with a metal piece, a bottle and a broken window glass and made a helmet.
When he finished the helmet he tried again and jumped in the water. The helmet worked but suddenly the bottle with the air broke, and Michael needed to go to the surface to breathe. He thought and thought until he got an idea, "Maybe if I made the same helmet but instead of the using a bottle for air I can make a long hose that reaches to the surface so I can breath". He made a long, long, long hose with an umbrella tied on top (so the birds didn't sit on top) so he could breath underwater.

Michael tried his new equipment and it was successful. He swam and swam and saw a beautiful view under him. He decided to swim deeper. Suddenly, Michael understood that he was swimming without his hose and he did not feel lack of air. He could breathe under water. He saw many wonderful and unknown fishes. Then, he saw a mermaid. She was very charming and told that she love Michael. She kissed him. Michael fell in love immediately and decided to marry mermaid. Her father was a sea tsar, main person in the sea. They went to speak with him. The sea tsar was very happy when he heard that they want to marry. He told Michael that he must go to ship and return tomorrow. But in exchange for his daughter, mermaid, he told that Michael must make hole in his ship at night. The sea tsar wanted to take ship and have all treasures in it for him.

Michael swam home. He was very happy. He did not think that when ship will go under water, all his mates will die.
At night he dived in the water with knife to swim under the ship bottom and make hole. Suddenly, a small fish swam to him and spoke in human voice: "Michael, eat this seaweed". He ate it and was shocked: How could he agree to make a hole in the ship??? Small fish explained: "You were enchanted by mermaid kiss. She and her father catch sailors and promise marriage. But what they want is only their ships and take people to work for them. I gave you seaweed to remove the chant. Swim quickly from this dangerous place. Or sea tsar will make a big storm".
Michael went to the ship and told captain to swim away as fast as they could. They were saved.
